Irvine-based R.D. Olson Development is moving ahead on the first new hotels to be built in Tustin in more than 15 years.
The hotel developer recently broke ground on a 149-room Residence Inn by Marriott and a 145-room Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott.
The roughly 7.5-acre project, which will include about 16,200 square feet of retail and restaurant space, is located next to the Costa Mesa (55) Freeway, at the intersection of Newport Avenue and Edinger Avenue.
Olson reached a deal to buy the city-owned land last year. The developer expects construction to take about 12 months to complete.
