Freedom Communications’ new owner and chief executive Aaron Kushner will serve as publisher of The Orange County Register, effective immediately.
Freedom Communications is the parent of Santa Ana’s daily newspaper, the Orange County Register.
Kushner will oversee the day-to-day operations of Orange County Register Communications. Those also include 23 community papers including the Gazette in Colorado Springs, Colo., as well as Spanish-language newspaper Excélsior, OrangeCounty.com and Coast Magazine in Santa Ana.
Register editor Ken Brusic had been serving as interim publisher since April and will continue his role as editor.
2100 Trust completed its acquisition of Freedom Communications and its seven remaining newspapers, including the Register, on July 25.
Kushner plans to introduce a “subscriber first” strategy by channeling resources toward “making content richer and more valuable to subscribers,” Kushner told employees on July 26.
