Nike Inc. appointed a former True Religion Apparel Inc. executive on Thursday to lead Costa Mesa-based action sports apparel company Hurley International LLC.

Michael Egeck is set to take over as Hurley's chief executive on Oct. 3.

Hurley, a unit of Oregon-based Nike, sells clothes inspired by surfing and skateboarding.

Egeck comes to Hurley after serving as president of designer jeans maker True Religion.

He also spent time at North Carolina-based VF Corp. in multiple roles that included a stint as president of VF's Outdoor and Action Sports group. The division includes brands such as Vans, Reef, The North Face and others.

Egeck's appointment puts an end to Hurley's search for a new leader after a May executive shuffle at Nike that left Hurley without a permanent chief executive.

Nike tapped former Levi Strauss & Co. executive Jim Calhoun to lead Hurley in April.

Less than a month after that news was announced, Calhoun was appointed head of Massachusetts-based athletic shoe and clothes maker Converse Inc., another Nike unit.

Roger Wyett, president of Nike’s affiliate brands division, had since been serving as Hurley's interim chief executive.
