FDA OKs Device Maker Endologix’s New Stents

Endologix Inc., an Irvine-based medical device maker, said Thursday that regulators approved an expansion of its main product line.

In a statement, the company said the Food and Drug Administration’s approval covered 31 new sizes of its Powerlink stents, which it said should expand the number of patients they can be used on by to 5% to 10%.

Endologix’s stents are used to reinforce a ruptured or ballooning section of an artery.

The Powerlink line treats abdominal aortic aneurysms, or a weakening of the wall in the aorta, which is the body’s largest artery. Powerlink is delivered through a catheter.

Endologix, whose stock closed up 4% Thursday with a market value of about $215 million, said it was going to move ahead with a limited release of the new Powerlink stents this month and a full-market release in the fourth quarter.
