Beckman Coulter Signs Contract with Canadian Health Provider

Brea-based Beckman Coulter Inc. said Thursday that it signed a five-year contract with a Canadian healthcare company that could be valued at $25 million to $30 million.

Under the deal, Beckman is providing 18 of its medical testing machines to CML HealthCare of Toronto.

Beckman said the machines include its UniCel DxI immunoassay instrument used to detect substances in urine or blood, along with clinical chemistry instruments.

The company said that the chemistry machines are upgrades to its existing systems already used by CML.

Beckman, which has annual sales of $3.3 billion, makes machines and chemicals used by hospitals and labs to run medical tests. The company has more than 200,000 systems operating in laboratories worldwide.

CML, which has annual revenue of about $500 million, operates labs, specimen collecting centers and medical imaging centers in Canada and in the northeastern U.S. Its facilities include a lab that processes over 140,000 tests daily.

It’s owned by the CML HealthCare Income Fund, an unincorporated trust that trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
