KDOC Canceling Gene Scott; Augie’s Quest in Spotlight

While PBS affiliate KOCE battles Dallas televangelist Marcus Lamb (Daystar) over ownership of the station, Orange County’s only commercial station, KDOC, is severing its 23-year relationship with another televangelist, the late Gene Scott. KDOC had been airing reruns of Dr. Scott’s idiosyncratic sermons, along with new lectures by his widow Melissa Scott, who succeeded him as pastor of University Cathedral in downtown Los Angeles. “This will be one of the most notable changes in the history of KDOC, freeing up our prime time for great classic entertainment programming through midnight,” says KDOC’s new owner Bert Ellis. A revised program schedule, along with a new logo and graphics, will be unveiled within two weeks. Ellis also is working on OC-focused news and entertainment, which KDOC last tried 15 years ago …
