Knott Heiress Donates to Hoag

Knott’s Berry Farm heiress Marion Knott gave $700,000 to Newport Beach Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian’s nursing education.

The donation, which comes amid California’s nursing shortage, is set to fund the Marion Knott Nursing Education Center.

Knott became interested in supporting nursing education when she learned that nursing schools, facing budget shortages, are unable to fill the demand for prospective nurses, forcing them to put potential nursing students on wait lists.

“I have offered my gift to Hoag in the form of a challenge grant,” Knott said, in a release. “The challenge is twofold: first, I’d like to call for someone else in the community to match my contribution dollar for dollar and, second, I’d like to invite others to collectively generate an equal amount.”

Hoag’s nursing education center is expected to cost about $2 million. Knott, daughter of Knott’s Berry Farm founder Walter Knott, is a Chapman University trustee, a businesswoman and philanthropist.

She recently gave $5 million to Chapman University for the building that will house its School of Film and Television. The building is set to be named the Marion Knott Studios.
