The Kathleen Muth Reading & Learning Center at Chapman University in Orange recently received a $50,000 grant from the Times Mirror Foundation. The money will be used to set up a literacy program for Cambridge Elementary students in grades 1-3. Established as part of the School of Education in 1970, the Reading Center performs dual roles: schooling teachers on how to teach reading and tutoring “at-risk” students in the community.

Orange high school students are also beneficiaries of the literacy tutoring. Other awards the Reading Center has landed include a $50,000 grant from Edison International and a $5,000 grant from the Starbucks Foundation.
