Midday Stock Roundup

 The S&P 500 increased 0.6% to 4,265.70 in midday trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.7% to 34,109.35 and the Nasdaq climbed 0.8% to 14,390.32. 

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was up 0.47% to 1.494%. Gold ticked 0.3% lower to $1,779 an ounce.

The price for a barrel of oil was up 0.1% to $73.18.

MEDICAL DEVICES

Staar Surgical Co. (Nasdaq: STAA) climbed 5.5% to $161.19 and a $7.6 billion market cap. Volume for the Lake Forest maker of implantable lenses was a third of its typical daily average. Shares have tripled in the past year.

MEDIA

Vizio Holding Co. (NYSE: VZIO) rose 5.3% to $24.27 and a $4.2 billion market cap. The Wall Street Journal yesterday profiled the efforts of the Irvine-based TV and media company to expand its software business.
