Digital Marketing Firm Human on Expansion Path

New HQ at Innovation Office Park; Revenue Tops $5M

Human, an Irvine-based digital marketing agency that focuses on emerging, fast-growing companies, is increasing its local presence as it preps for a boost in business.

The almost 30-person firm in November moved into the new Innovation Office Park in the Irvine Spectrum. Owned by Irvine Co., the office campus is heavy with tech and gaming tenants such as Twitch and Sega of America.

While the company has always been based in Orange County, founder Joel Brda said the move comes as the marketing group focuses more on local businesses.

“All of our digital advertising and campaigns will be locally based moving forward,” Brda told the Business Journal, referring to a focus on both Irvine and OC in general.

“This is the place to dig in,” Brda said.

Doubling Up Plans

Founded in 2015, Human focuses on the digital marketing space by developing online strategies for various businesses to set up or expand a digital presence.

Human clients tend to be small to medium-sized businesses who are in the early stages of building a digital strategy.

Local clients include a Buena Park-based energy solutions company, Fastech, and GoGreenSolar in Anaheim, an online seller of solar panel equipment.

The firm hit $5 million in revenue for 2022—a 37% jump from the year prior and resulted in 103% revenue growth over the past three years. Its estimated profit for 2022 was $900,000.

Human projects revenue of $5.5 million for 2023.

The agency has witnessed a major push to e-commerce within the past few years and with the industry growth came an evolving clientele.

Brda said the group was introduced to more startups and private equity-backed businesses during the pandemic. Human also added new direct-to-consumer (DTC) clients departing from its regular portfolio of business-to-business (B2B).

Brda aims to double Human’s employee count and revenue in the next three to five years. To prepare, he said the agency would be revisiting foundational processes and doubling down on its sales and marketing—“refocusing on everything internally.”

One-on-One

Personalization is a key part of the company’s secret sauce.

The agency counts roughly 25 clients operating on a one-on-one basis when it comes to work—one employee to each client.

“We focus on businesses that are at a certain maturity cycle [in their] online business experience,” Brda said.

He says the firm can come in and bridge the gaps of understanding when a direction is needed. Human has three AI-powered software programs developed in-house to leverage digital tools in analytics, algorithms, and search engine optimization (SEO).

A new suite of applications is set to release in the company’s first quarter of the year called Atomic Widgets.
