Nike is taking more space in Lake Forest

Nike Taking Up Lake Forest Space

Nike Team Sports Inc. plans to consolidate two Irvine warehouses into a new larger space in Lake Forest in December.

Nike Team Sports, the unit that distributes team logo apparel for high school, college and professional leagues under Nike and SPL 28 brands, has roughly seven employees at the two Irvine facilities. The unit of Nike Inc. also operates a 100-person distribution facility in Foothill Ranch.

The consolidation stands to give Nike an extra 10,000 square feet of warehouse space for a total of 75,000 square feet at 20202 Windrow Drive in Lake Forest under a four-year lease valued at $1.8 million.

The 124,619-square-foot building had been partially vacant. Nike will share the building with medical device maker I-Flow Corp.

In Foothill Ranch, Nike has spent $6 million in the past year to install an automation system that’s boosted distribution from about 300,000 units to 2 million units annually, said Jim Dillard, the company’s director of distribution. The Foothill Ranch location’s staff can double with contract workers during busy periods, he said.

According to Christian Scott, communications manager for Nike Team Sports in Beaverton, Ore., the local distribution center supplies all Nike’s U.S. team sports apparel and counts annual sales of roughly $175 million out of the company’s overall $1.1 billion in U.S. yearly clothing sales. Nike also operates one of its 18 U.S. sales offices in Irvine and recently closed its Nike ACG action sports division office in Irvine.

Jeff Cannon and Mark Zuvich of Zuvich, Cannon & Associates represented Nike in the Lake Forest lease, and Jon Marchiorlatti and Chris Bates of CB Richard Ellis represented the building owner, Industrial Developments International. n
