CureDuchenne has announced a partnership with Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) to establish the CureDuchenne Clinic, the Newport Beach-based nonprofit announced Monday morning.
Duchenne is a rare neuromuscular disease. The state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary clinic within CHOC’s Neuromuscular Program will offer advanced diagnostics and emerging treatments to enhance accessibility for families in Southern California and beyond. With this collaboration, CureDuchenne, the 69th largest nonprofit in Orange County, aims to integrate innovative therapies and expert-led services to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
The Newport Beach-based nonprofit has committed nearly $1.5 million over three years to fund the CureDuchenne Clinic at CHOC. The clinic will focus on expanding CHOC’s multidisciplinary neuromuscular program, accelerating access to gene therapies through its Outpatient Infusion Center, and developing a national model for adult transition care.
Debra Miller, founder and CEO of CureDuchenne, said the CureDuchenne Clinic at CHOC “will not only enhance access to the best possible care but also drive forward the next generation of Duchenne treatments—helping individuals live longer, stronger lives.”
“Comprehensive care from an experienced, multidisciplinary healthcare team is critical to addressing the complex needs of children living with Duchenne,” she said. “Through our partnership with CHOC, we are creating a seamless, patient-centered approach that integrates expert clinical care with groundbreaking research and innovative treatments.”
Dr. Julian Thomas, medical director of the Neuromuscular Program at CHOC, said he’s honored to provide leading-edge care for Duchenne patients. “Neuromuscular Program is deeply grateful to CureDuchenne for investing in our work to rapidly elevate how we care for our patients with DMD,” Thomas said in a statement. “We are at an incredible moment to drive advancements in care and our partnership with CureDuchenne will help us chart a bright future.”
