Irvine-based N2 Imaging Systems LLC has been awarded a five-year, $81 million Defense Department contract to develop and manufacture sniper scopes.
N2 will provide the first clip-on thermal weapon scope specifically developed for Army snipers to enhance target accuracy in limited-vision environments.
The company designs and makes infra-red imaging systems, optical and advanced sensor systems and cameras for military and commercial uses from its headquarters near Jamboree Road and the Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway.
N2 was bought late last year on undisclosed terms by United Technologies Corp., a Farmington, Conn.-based conglomerate with $56 billion in sales of elevator, aerospace, defense, heating and electronic security systems, as well as other products.
UTC shares are up 1% in late afternoon trading to a market value of about $85 billion.
