Chapman Names Entrepreneurship Chief

Chapman University in Orange named angel investor and entrepreneur Shan Steinmark the new director of its Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics.

Steinmark has invested with Tech Coast Angels, founded several companies, and served as a mentor at the Leatherby Center. He replaces Richard Sudek—also a Tech Coast Angels alum—who left Leatherby in September for a similar role at University of California-Irvine’s Institute for Innovation.

He will work with Gene Alexander, director of Chapman’s LaunchLab Incubator, which houses 30 student entrepreneur groups developing businesses.

Steinmark emphasized what he called a need for creativity and collaboration in entrepreneurship.

“All real economic growth is a function of innovation,” he said in a statement about his appointment.

Dean Reggie Gilyard of Chapman’s George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics said Steinmark was selected for his “demonstrated track record and … strong vision” for the center.
