Indexes slumped after jobless claims edged upwards for the first time March.
The S&P 500 was down 0.7% to 3,253.03.
The Dow Jones decreased 0.7% to 26,818.38.
The Nasdaq fell 1.6% to 10,533.26.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond decreased 1% to 0.59%.
The price of gold increased 1.34% to $1,890.
The price of oil was down 0.8% to $41.58 a barrel.
RESTAURANTS
Chipotle Mexican Group Inc. (NYSE: CMG) fell 4.4% to $1,133.05 per share with a $32. billion market cap. The Newport Beach-based fast casual chain’s shares fell after it reported its second quarter earnings following market close on July 22. It reported revenue decreased 4.8% to $1.4 billion while digital sales grew 216% and accounted for 61% of sales. The shares still are up more than 150% since mid-March.
SERVICES
Irvine-based Montrose Environmental Group Inc (NYSE: MEG) jumped 39% to $20.85 and a $525 million market cap. The company, a provider of environmental consulting services, today had an initial public offering where it raised $150 million.
FINANCE
Santa Ana-based Banc of California, Inc. (NYSE: Banc) was up 7.2% to $10.94 a share with a $547 million market cap. The bank today reported a second quarter loss of 2 cents that topped the Zacks Consensus Estimate for a 39-cent loss.
Pacific Mercantile Bancorp (Nasdaq: PMBC) also rose 4.2% to $3.72 a share with an $87.79 million market cap.
