The National Institutes of Health awarded California State University, Fullerton a $1.7 million grant to train underrepresented students for graduate school and careers in biomedical science.
The grant supports CSUF’s Undergraduate Research Training Initiative for Student Enhancement (U-RISE), which aims to mentor students and prepare them for a biomedical doctoral or MD-PhD program.
U-RISE seeks to recruit students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, who identify as LGBTQ, who are neurodiverse or who have physical disabilities to promote diversity in biomedical research, Program Director and biology professor Math Cuajungco told CSUF News.
The ten undergraduate juniors and seniors will join U-RISE and begin the two-year program in June.
