SchoolsFirst Names New President

Tustin-based SchoolsFirst FCU, the largest credit union in Orange County, announced it’s splitting the current roles of president and chief executive. Bill Cheney, who currently holds both positions, is ceding the president title to Jose Lara, who has been with the Credit Union for nearly 30 years. Lara, who started as manager of the Placentia branch, most recently served as chief operating officer. “Jose’s commitment to the credit union movement, its principles and his passion for championing our mission of delivering world-class personal service and financial security will help lead our growing and thriving credit union,” Cheney said in a statement. Additionally, the credit union announced the promotion of three senior leaders who will report directly to Lara: Carol Rose, executive vice president, Member service operations; Kevin Martin, executive vice president, strategic integration and Member experience; and Jim Phillips, executive vice president, chief information officer.SchoolsFirst reported assets climbed 20% to $25.9 billion for the year ended June 30.
