Lawsuit State

Many thanks to the OCBJ and Insider columnist Rick Reiff for sharing how California is largely viewed as the most difficult and expensive legal environment among all states (OCInsider column, Aug. 9).

At a time when our state and many others are bankrupt and the country is falling apart, trial lawyers continue to invest heavily in candidates who will carry their water and make it easier to sue.

Shakedown lawsuits continue to haunt our hard working small-business owners. They not only have to worry about meeting payroll but also about being hit with a demand letter from unscrupulous attorneys who continue to harass owners with $4,000 minor technical violations, abusing the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The plaintiffs bar continues to push for job-killing polices and fights to block sensible legal reforms in Sacramento. They are driving a stake into the heart of small-business owners and are driving businesses out of our state. We need more jobs, not more lawsuits.
