Midday Stock Roundup

The S&P 500 fell 1% to 3,861.64 in midday trading.

The Dow 30 decreased 0.8% to 31,199.64.

The Nasdaq fell 2.1% to 11,280.76.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was flat at 3.192%.

The price of gold fell 0.1% to $1.822.20

The price for a barrel of oil jumped almost 2% to $111.72.

TECHNOLOGY

Shares in Irvine-based data analytics company Alteryx Inc. (NYSE: AYX) fell 4.3% to $50.17 apiece for a market cap of $3.4 billion, as the tech-heavy Nasdaq fell almost 2%. Alteryx was added as a new “best idea short” at Hedgeye yesterday, immediately pushing the stock down, investor website SeekingAlpha.com said yesterday.

AEROSPACE

Space tourism company Virgin Galactic Holdings Inc. (NYSE: SPCE) fell 3.6% to $6.43 per share for a market cap of $1.7 billion. Investor website TheMotleyFool.com said earlier in the day that “several red flags make Virgin Galactic a risky investment in today’s bear market”  and that “the company could be in a tricky spot if the stock languishes until more cash is needed.”
