$28.8M Oceanfront Listing is Third Priciest in Laguna

A piece of the European countryside along the shores of Laguna Beach hit the market this month, with an asking price of $28.8 million.

The 4,350-square-foot home at 31521 Bluff Drive is tied to a trust linked to former Custom Building Products Inc. President Thomas Peck Jr. and his wife, Kathryn, according to property records.

It has five bedrooms and six bathrooms. There’s also a wine room and separate guesthouse.

Sitting on nearly an acre, the property has a large front courtyard and is surrounded by vine-covered stone fences for added privacy. The backyard has a water fountain, fireplace, pool and spa, as well as 180 feet of ocean frontage, according to listing details.

It’s about a mile south of the Montage Laguna Beach resort.

Records show the couple purchased the home in 2006 and completely remodeled the property in 2008.

Peck served as president of Seal Beach-based Custom Building from 1986 to 2013. His father, Thomas Peck, co-founded the business in 1964. It specializes in manufacturing and marketing flooring preparation products, and was sold to Atlanta-based Quikrete Holdings Co. in 2013. The deal was said to be valued between $700 million and $800 million, according to Reuters.

Clark Smith of Realatrends Inc. has the listing, which touts the property as a “fabulous Antique Italian-French Country oceanfront estate.”

It’s the third priciest home in Laguna Beach currently on the market, according to data from Redfin.com.

First Look

The Laguna Beach home of former Hotel Laguna operator Georgia Andersen is on the market with an asking price of $11.5 million, or $1,716 per square foot.

Records show Andersen purchased the hillside lot in 1994 for $195,000 and later purchasing the neighboring lot. This month marks the first time the 6,700-square-foot property designed by Laguna Beach-based firm Morris Skenderian and Associates has been marked for sale.

Located at the end of a private cul-de-sac at 602 Vista Lane, the custom-built property designed by Laguna Beach-based firm Morris Skenderian and Associates has five bedrooms and five bathrooms. The solar-powered home includes a kitchen with double ovens and a grill with a stainless venting system for hosting an indoor barbeque. There’s an elevator, home gym with a Jacuzzi and sauna, theatre, and wine room for up to 1,000 bottles.

The estate also has an outdoor kitchen, pool and vegetable garden as well as fruit trees such as plum, fig and oranges.

Andersen and her late husband, Claes, bought the rights to operate the 65-room Hotel Laguna in 1985. The iconic property closed its doors in December, but is expected to be renovated by a new operating group with local ties.

Andersen now owns and operates the restaurant Two Left Forks with her son and managing partner, Stefan.

Nancee Swensson of Surterre Properties has the listing.
