Mountain Mike’s Pizza LLC hired Jim Metevier as president and chief operating officer.
Newport Beach-based Mountain Mike’s was bought in April 2017 by private equity firms—Britt Private Capital LLC and Jupiter Holdings LLC in Newport Beach, with backing from Levine Lechtman Capital Partners in Los Angeles—and moved its headquarters to OC from Northern California.
Britt Private Capital’s founder Chris Britt and Jupiter Holdings’ Ed St. Geme remain co-chief executives.
Mountain Mike’s debuted at No. 14 on the Business Journal’s list of OC-based restaurant chains with systemwide sales of $156 million from 193 locations. It had revenue of about $12 million and net income of about $4 million last year, franchise filings indicate.
About 80% of its locations “are between Chico and Bakersfield,” Britt said earlier this year and the chain, which expects to have 208 locations open by the end of the year, is expanding in Southern California with franchised sites. There’s currently one location in OC, in Lake Forest.
“It’s an exciting time for Mountain Mike’s as we continue to fill out development in California and expand into new territories,” Britt and St. Geme said in a press release, “and bringing on an industry veteran of Jim’s caliber is an important step.”
Metevier worked 22 years for Yum Brands, starting as a general manager for KFC in Orlando, including roles at Yum corporate, and ending with two and a half years as chief operating officer of KFC in the U.S.
He was president for 14 months at Biscuitville Fresh Southern, a Greensboro, N.C.-based fast food chain with about 55 locations in North Carolina and Virginia. He has a bachelor’s in psychology and an MBA, both from University of Central Florida in Orlando.
Metevier replaces former Mountain Mike’s co-owner Robert Quick as president; chief operating officer is a new position.
Quick will remain a brand consultant to Mountain Mike’s, said Chris Britt via email.
