The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond declined 0.4% to 2.94%.
The price of gold was 0.5% higher to $1,232.
Shares of land developers and home builders were down on a decline in U.S. home sales in June. Transactions fell 5.3% compared with May to the slowest pace in eight months. Sales of existing homes fell 2.2% in June, on a year-over-year comparison.
Tri Pointe Group Inc. (NYSE: TPH) declined 3.1% to $15.44 and a $2.3 billion market cap; William Lyon Homes (NYSE: WLH) in Newport Beach fell 6% to $21.69 and an $819 million market cap. New Home Co. Inc. (NYSE: NWHM) in Aliso Viejo dropped 3.2% to $9.53 and a $200 million market cap.
Edwards Lifesciences Corp. (NYSE: EW) in Irvine was up 1.8% to a $32.7 billion market cap. The U.S. House of Representatives voted to repeal a medical device tax; Senate action is pending. Edwards makes heart valves. It will report quarterly results tomorrow.
