The S&P 500 was up 0.2% in midday trading to 2,448.19.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.1% to 21,560.38.

The NASDAQ was up 0.2% to 6,272.34.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was up 1.2% to 2.36%.

The price of gold was down 0.1% to $1,217.90.

RETAIL

Tilly’s Inc. (NYSE: TLYS) and Boot Barn Holdings Inc. (NYSE: BOOT), both based in Irvine, were up today on positive industry news that included Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT) raising quarterly guidance for comparable sales and earnings per share. Tilly’s was up 6.6% to $10.56 and a $304 million market cap. Boot Barn was up 6.8% to $6.87 and a $183 million market cap.

HEALTHCARE

Peregrine Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: PPHM) in Tustin was up 12% to $5.37 and a $244 million market cap. Shares had by midday traded at a rate four times its 90-day average as Peregrine prepares to report results after markets close. The company is developing drugs to fight cancer.
