PacLife Switches Ad Agency, Plans Corporate Campaign

Newport Beach-based Pacific Life Insurance Co. named M&C Saatchi LA in Santa Monica its advertising agency of record, and the agency’s first assignment will be creating a corporate brand awareness campaign that’s scheduled to launch in the summer.

“We are thrilled to have found a highly strategic creative partner in M&C Saatchi LA and look forward to producing great work together,” Tennyson Oyler, vice president of brand management and public affairs, said in a statement.

Pacific Life sells life insurance products, annuities and mutual funds and has about $137 billion in assets. It reported revenue of about $8.4 billion in its most recent fiscal year and income of $561 million. It employs 2,139 locally and about 3,300 companywide.

“Like the symbolic humpback whale, Pacific Life is known for its exemplary strength, performance, and protection,” said M&C Saatchi LA Chief Executive Huw Griffith. “We are honored to be working together to build on the incredibly high awareness levels the brand has achieved, to strengthen consumers’ emotional ties to Pacific Life, and to help tell the unique story of the company’s values and offerings.”

Pacific Life previously worked with 180LA in Santa Monica. It spent more than $31 million on paid marketing in 2015 and $21 million during the first nine months of last year, according to Kantar Media in New York.

Palisades Media Group in Santa Monica handles its media planning and buying.

Cypress-based Mitsubishi Electric Inc. was the title sponsor of the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, Hawaii Jan. 16 to 21.

The event kicked off the 2017 PGA Tour Champions season with a $1.8 million purse, of which $309,000 went to the winner. About 50 players competed, including World Golf Hall of Fame members Bernhard Langer, Fred Couples, Ben Crenshaw, Hale Irwin, Tom Kite, Sandy Lyle, Colin Montgomerie, Larry Nelson, Mark O’Meara, Vijay Singh and Tom Watson.

The tournament was founded in 1984 as the MONY Senior Tournament of Champions. Mitsubishi signed on as a sponsor in 2007 and in 2015 extended the partnership to 2020. It also supplies its Diamond Vision LED scoreboards at nearly every PGA Tour tournament as the Official Large Outdoor Video Display Provider of the PGA Tour. It’s the Official HVAC Products of the PGA Tour and the Official Elevator and Escalator of the PGA Tour.

The company also has been a title sponsor of the Mitsubishi Electric Classic since last year. The tournament returns to Atlanta for its April 10 to 16 run. Both tournaments will be broadcast on the GOLF Channel, the tour’s exclusive cable television partner, which reaches about 80 million homes in the U.S. Champions Tour telecasts are also distributed internationally to more than 205 countries.

Incipio Group in Irvine had an impressive presence at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this month. The maker of cellphone cases and other mobile device accessories was one of about 100 OC-based companies at the show, which attracted more than 3,800 exhibitors.

Its setup included three booths in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. Braven, the speakers brand it acquired in 2013, was in a 40-foot-by-60-foot booth. Griffin, a maker of smartphone cases, chargers and cables, shared a 30-foot-by-90-foot space with tech accessory and bag brand Incase. Incipio took up a two-story, 40-foot-by-70-foot booth, which it shared with a roster of licensed brands, including Kate Spade New York, Jack Spade, Rebecca Minkoff, TUMI, Sugar Paper, and the recently announced brands B&O PLAY and Vera Bradley.

Incipio’s CES marketing effort was estimated to be $1 million. Other OC-based companies with significant presences at the show included Irvine-based Western Digital Corp., Hyundai Motor America Inc. and Kingston Technology Co. in Fountain Valley, and Santa Ana-based Universal Electronics Inc.

The newly launched 2018 Stinger by Kia Motors America Inc. in Irvine was honored with an EyesOn Design award for production car design excellence at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. … The 2017 Lunar New Year celebration at the Outlets at Orange will continue through Feb. 2. The shopping center will host dance and music performances from three local Southern California organizations on Jan. 29.
