Irvine-based Alzheimer’s Orange County and Garden Grove-based Acacia Adult Day Services are slated to merge, effective July 1. The move will bring Acacia under the auspices of Alzheimer’s Orange County, which split from its national association in 2015.

The merged entity will open another space down the street from Acacia's current building in Garden Grove and add more programs. That location will be managed by Acacia Adult Day Services staff. Alzheimer's Orange County will use the space to provide its programs to more families in the northern part of the county.

Alzheimer’s Orange County began as an independent nonprofit in 1982, became a chapter of a national association in 1984 and became an independent nonprofit again in late 2015, with all fundraising going toward care, support and research in Orange County. Last year, it took over operations of South County Adult Day Services, moving it into a new 11,000-square-foot building in Laguna Woods.

Acacia Adult Day Services was founded in 1979.
