Blizzard-Facebook Tie-In

Irvine-based Blizzard Entertainment Inc. today announced a partnership with Facebook Inc. that aims to connect millions of gamers while boosting content on the world’s largest social network.

The collaboration kicks off this month when users will be able to access Blizzard titles, such as “World of Warcraft,” “Heroes of the Storm,” “Hearthstone,” and “Diablo III,” with their Facebook login, adding a new social aspect for Blizzard patrons to share, view and discuss gaming content and other topics.

Blizzard last week hosted a livestream launch event on Facebook for “Overwatch,” its first new franchise in 18 years.

The first person shooter game, released May 24 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows, has already amassed more than 7 million players, the company announced last week.

Blizzard also hosted a livestream on Facebook for its Heroes of the Dorm e-sports competition that aired on ESPN 2 in March.

Menlo Park-based Facebook counts more than 650 million people every month who play video games across online, mobile and console formats and some 1.65 billion total users globally.
