Shares in Levy Acquisition Corp., the company that plans to buy Lake Forest-based Del Taco Holdings Inc., were up 5% to $16.10 and a market cap of $312 million. Del Taco this morning reported first-quarter earnings of $8.7 million, up about 33% compared with $6.5 million in the same period last year. Sales for the quarter totaled $94.4 million, up 9% from $86.7 million, year-over-year.
Costa Mesa-based El Pollo Loco Holdings Inc. was up 3.8% to $27.81 and a $1 billion market cap. The fast-food chicken chain is set to report first quarter earnings after markets close on Thursday.
Newport Beach-based American Vanguard Corp. was up 5.7% to $15.05 and a $439 million market cap on high volume. About 300,000 shares of the pesticide maker and distributor had traded at midday, compared with a 90-day full-day average of about 200,000. BB&T Capital Markets initiated coverage on its shares last week with a “buy” rating.
Santa Ana-based Universal Electronics Inc. was down 3.5% to $50.56 and an $803 million market cap. The stock has dropped about 10% in the last two trading sessions since the wireless remote control products maker reported quarterly earnings slightly up and offered guidance for the current quarter that left open the chance of an earnings decline, year-over-year, in its next report.
