The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.76% to 16,401.03, while the Nasdaq was up 0.33% to 4,240.36.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was off 0.11% to 2.73%.
The price of gold rose 0.01% to $1,311.20 per ounce.
Newport Beach-based William Lyon Homes rose about 4% to $28.45 for a market value of $886.56 million.
Foothill Ranch-based teen and contemporary retailer Wet Seal Inc. continued to slide, down about 11% to $1.12 for a market value of $93.82 million. The company's stock has fallen 33% since Friday, when the company released disappointing guidance for the current quarter.
