The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.17% to 16,323.19, while the Nasdaq rose 0.14% to 4,313.41.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond fell 1.55% to 2.72%.
The price of gold was up 1.77% to $1,371.20 per ounce.
FINANCE
Santa Ana-based First American Financial Corp. rose about 4% to $27.33 for a market value of $2.9 billion. The company said Tuesday its board of directors approved doubling the quarterly cash dividend paid out to shareholders.
CLEAN TECHNOLOGY
Newport Beach-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. was down about 2% to $9.26 for a market value of $832 million.
HEALTHCARE
Aliso Viejo-based drug maker Avanir Pharmaceuticals Inc. was down about 2% to $4.10 for a market value of $624.41 million.
