The S&P 500 fell 0.47% to 1,978.68 in midday trading Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.76% to 16,954.66, while the Nasdaq was down 0.57% to 4,446.70.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond fell 1.32% to 2.48%.

The price of gold was up 0.55% to $1,298.50.


Costa Mesa-based El Pollo Loco Holdings Inc. was up 48% to $22.27 and a market capitalization of $642 million. The restaurant chain went public today with shares priced at $15.

Huntington Beach-based BJ’s Restaurants Inc. was up 15.8% to $35.46 and a market cap of $1 billion. It reported mixed earnings but higher revenues and it beat analysts’ earnings per share estimates by 25%. It also said restaurant margins would surpass 19% while new restaurants would be cheaper to build.


Newport Beach-based patent licensor Acacia Research Corp. was up 15.7% to $17.33 and a market cap of $867 million. It reported second quarter revenues more than doubled to $50 million year-over-year, and adjusted net income was $7.9 million, or $0.16 per share, compared to an adjusted net loss of $2.7 million and $0.06 per share in the same quarter last year
