The S&P 500 was down 0.64% to 1,781.08 in afternoon trading Wednesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.82% to 15,797.90, while the Nasdaq fell 0.66% to 4,070.94.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was off 1.20% to 2.71%.
The price of gold rose 0.87% to $1,261.70 per ounce.
Huntington Beach-based BJ's Restaurants Inc. was down about 4% to $27.69 for a market value of $781.61 million. Barclays lowered its rating on the company's stock to "underweight,” while Wunderlich lowered its price target from $31 to $29.
Huntington Beach-based Quiksilver Inc. was off about 6% to $7.05 for a market value of $1.19 billion. The company is down about 15% so far this year.
