The S&P 500 rose 0.23% to 1,843.98 in afternoon trading Friday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.19% to 16,164.02, while the Nasdaq was up 0.25% to 4,278.36.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was off 0.47% to 2.74%.
The price of gold rose 0.46% to $1,322.90 per ounce.
Newport Beach-based patent licensor Acacia Research Corp. was off about 8% to $13.64, a day after reporting fourth-quarter results that missed Wall Street analyst estimates. Acacia had a recent market value of $680.99 million.
San Clemente-based medical device maker ICU Medical Inc. shares were down about 6% to $58.86 for a market value of $888.94 million. Analysts at Roth Capital Partners lowered their price target on ICU from $62 to $56. The company reported results for its fourth quarter on Wednesday.
Irvine-based Autobytel Inc. shares were off about 13% to $16.12 for a market value of $143.60 million. The company announced fourth-quarter results this week and also said it plans to file for a shelf registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
