The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.73% to 15,742.03, while the Nasdaq was up 1.33% to 4,111.06.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was off 1.41% to 2.66%.
The price of gold rose 0.37% to $1,261.90 per ounce.
Newport Beach-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. slipped about 4% to $9.63 for a market value of $860.51 million. CNBC "Mad Money" TV host Jim Cramer said the odds aren't in the company’s favor, with the switch to natural gas not happening fast enough.
Irvine-based chipmaker Broadcom Corp. was up about 3% to $30.34 for a market value of $17.48 billion.
Foothill Ranch-based specialty aluminum products maker Kaiser Aluminum Corp. was up about 3% to $68.87 for a market value of $1.28 billion.
