The S&P 500 rose 0.24% to 1,849.55 in afternoon trading Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.05% to 16,255.15, while the Nasdaq was up 0.75% to 4,110.25.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was off 0.11% to 2.69%.
The price of gold rose 0.89% to $1,309.90 per ounce.
Irvine-based drug maker Allergan Inc. was off about 2% to $118.36 for a market value of $35.33 billion. Zacks Investment Research lowered its rating on the company's stock from "outperform" to "neutral."
CorVel Corp., also in Irvine, was up about 3% to $51.75 for a market value of $1.08 billion. CorVel offers workers' compensation software and services aimed at the healthcare industry.
Irvine-based specialty financing company Consumer Portfolio Services Inc. was up about 8% to $6.87 for a market value of $167.88 million. The company is expected to hold its first-quarter conference call on Wednesday.
Irvine-based professional services firm Resources Connection Inc. was up about 3% to $14.14 for a market value of $547.91 million.
