The S&P 500 rose 0.31% to 1,878.06 in afternoon trading Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.25% to 16,499.09, while the Nasdaq was up 0.91% to 4,237.39.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 0.92% to 2.75%.
The price of gold fell 0.26% to $1,280.40 per ounce.
Huntington Beach-based Quiksilver Inc. was up about 3% to $7.74 for a market value of $1.31 billion. Quiksilver said it ended its partnership with professional surfer Kelly Slater, who said in a separate announcement he is working with Paris-based Kering on a new apparel line.
Anaheim drug maker Questcor Pharmaceuticals Inc. was up about 5% to $67.84 for a market value of $3.99 billion. The company was mentioned Monday by CNBC “Mad Money” host Jim Cramer, who took a neutral stance on the company, during the show’s Lightning Round segment.
