The S&P 500 was up 0.38% to 1,699.23 in afternoon trading Thursday.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.40% to 15,333.82, while the Nasdaq rose 0.79% to 3,791.
The yield on a 10-Year treasury bond was up 1.30% to 2.65%.
The price of gold was off 1.03% to $1,322.40 per ounce.
Irvine-based disk drive maker Western Digital Corp. was off about 3% to $63.61, after Longbow Research replaced Western Digital with rival Seagate Technology Inc. on its "Best Idea List." Western Digital had a recent market value of $15.08 billion.
Anaheim drug maker Questcor Pharmaceuticals Inc. was up about 3% to $57.73 for a market value of $3.4 billion. Piper Jaffray Cos. reiterated its "overweight" rating on the company's stock.
