The S&P 500 was off 0.45% to 1,702.18 in afternoon trading Monday.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 0.26% to 15,410.56, while the Nasdaq was down 0.26% to 3,764.80.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond slipped 0.66% to 2.71%.
The price of gold fell 0.47% to $1,326.30 per ounce.
Homebuilders were generally down on Monday with local developers leading the decline.
Newport Beach-based William Lyon Homes was off about 5% to $20.09 for a market value of $631.57 million.
TRI Pointe Homes Inc. of Irvine fell about 4% to $14.31 for a market value of $452.15 million.
Homebuilders Lennar Corp. of Miami and KH Home of Los Angeles are expected to announce their quarterly results on Tuesday.
