The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond slipped 0.88% to 2.93%.
The price of gold fell 0.29% to $1,360.10 per ounce.
Aliso Viejo-based Avanir Pharmaceuticals Inc. was down about 9% to $5.02 on an article from investor website Seeking Alpha written by short seller Gravity Research that raised questions about the company's solvency. Avanir had a recent market value of $730.28 million.
Shares of Irvine online media company Local Corp. were up about 7% to $2.12 for a market value of $48.5 million. The company announced an updated version of Krillion, an index that provides location-based shopping information.
