The S&P 500 was up 0.64% to 1,682.33 in afternoon trading Tuesday.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.71% to 15,170.21, while the Nasdaq rose 0.53% to 3,725.87.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was up 1.69% to 2.95%.
The price of gold was off 1.62% to $1,364.30 per ounce.
Irvine-based Quality Systems Inc. was down about 2% to $21.04, a day after announcing it acquired Costa Mesa-based Mirth Corp. on undisclosed terms. Quality had a recent market value of roughly $1.3 billion.
Aliso Viejo networking equipment maker QLogic Corp. was up about 2% to $11.05 for a market value of $968.9 million. The company announced the release of new server adapters on Tuesday.
