Orange County automakers sailed through August, notching sales gains and monthly records for some.
Irvine-based Mazda North American Operations saw the largest percentage gain for the month with its vehicles sales up 26.4% from the year-ago period to 28,106 vehicles. It was the company’s best August in 10 years.
Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. of Cypress recorded a 24.3% rise in vehicle sales to 5,281.
Hyundai Motor America Inc. sold 66,101 vehicles last month for a record August. That’s up 8% from the year-ago period for Hyundai, which has temporary headquarters in Costa Mesa.
Irvine-based Kia Motors America Inc. also had its best August for sales, which rose 4% to 52,025.
Nationally, automakers saw vehicle sales rise 17% to 1.5 million, according to New Jersey-based Autodata Corp.’s Motor Intelligence.
The August results put the industry on track to sell about 16.09 million vehicles for the year, the highest the seasonally adjusted annualized rate has been since 2007.
