The S&P 500 rose 0.18% to 1,762.98 in afternoon trading Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.12% to 15,589.04, while the Nasdaq was down 0.02% to 3,942.41.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 0.24% to 2.51%.

The price of gold was up 0.04% to $1,353 per ounce.


Irvine heart valve maker Edwards Lifesciences Corp.’s shares were off about 3% to $74.64 after the company provided guidance for the current quarter that fell below analysts’ expectations. The forecast came the same day competitor Boston Scientific Corp. of Massachusetts said it received European regulatory approval for its Lotus heart valve. Edwards had a recent market value of $8.38 billion.

Newport Beach-based Alliance Healthcare Services Inc. continued its slide from Friday and was down about 10% Monday afternoon to $23 for a market value of $238.90 million. Alliance closed down Friday by more than 18%.


Huntington Beach-based BJ's Restaurants Inc. was down about 2% to $25.74 for a market value of $724.30 million. The restaurant operator closed Friday down 4.55%, a day after reporting disappointing results for the October quarter.
