Freedom Communications to Publish the Orange County CatholicTuesday, October 8, 2013
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange selected Churm Custom Publishing to take over publishing of its newspaper, the Orange County Catholic.
The publication’s editorial team will continue to oversee content development, while Churm Custom Publishing—a unit of Santa Ana-based Freedom Communications Inc., which also owns the Orange County Register—will be in charge of the design, printing, ad sales and distribution.
The 24-page, 13-year-old Orange County Catholic will be expanded from monthly to weekly publication, starting Nov. 6. It will be available on Wednesdays at Orange County's parishes, as well as a “free opt-in” for the Register’s seven-day subscribers.
“Our Catholic population has grown exponentially over the past several decades,” said Bishop of Orange Kevin Vann. “This growth has required our diocese to look at all aspects of the care we provide the faithful, from Church buildings to how Catholics communicate, share information and celebrate together. The Orange County Catholic newspaper is a major part of this fabric that unites our community together and reflects and builds culture and community.”
The publishing contract is currently handled by Los Angeles-based The Tidings Corp., which also produces Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles' publications The Tidings and Vida Nueva.
