The S&P 500 rose 0.60% to 1,688.81 in afternoon trading Friday.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 0.43% to 15,061.10, while the Nasdaq was up 0.88% to 3,807.29.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 1.92% to 2.65%.
The price of gold slipped 0.61% to $1,309.60 per ounce.
Irvine-based Quality Systems Inc. rose about 2% to $22.88 for a market value of $1.36 billion.
The company, which makes software used by dentists and doctors to manage their practices, said its NextGen Inpatient Clinicals information systems software received certification from the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology as a Complete Electronic Health Record.
Aliso Viejo-based Avanir Pharmaceuticals Inc. was up about 6% to $4.60 for a market value of $669.16 million. The drug maker is up about 54% so far this year.
