The S&P 500 rose 0.33% to 1,801.73 in afternoon trading Friday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.11% to 16,028.36, while the Nasdaq was up 0.45% to 3,987.20.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was off 0.97% to 2.76%.
The price of gold was down 0.06% to $1,242.90 per ounce.
Huntington Beach-based BJ's Restaurants Inc. was up about 2% to $29.50 for a market value of $832.62 million. BJ’s opened a new restaurant in Mission Valley this week, which is its 16th new location this year.
Restaurant operators were generally mixed on Friday.
Shares of Irvine-based CombiMatrix Corp. fell back about 14% to $2.74 after climbing 20% on Thursday when the molecular diagnostics company said it would cover diagnostic lab services for America's Choice Provider Network under a new contract. CombiMatrix had a recent market value of about $13 million.
