The S&P 500 rose 0.13% to 1,792.94 in afternoon trading Friday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.29% to 15,922.84, and the Nasdaq was up 0.16% to 3,979.18.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 0.33% to 2.71%.
The price of gold was up 0.12% to $1,287.90 per ounce.
Newport Beach patent licensor Acacia Research Corp.’s shares were up about 8% to $15.55 after the company said it plans to buy back as much as $70 million in stock over the next six months. Acacia had a recent market value of $776.35 million.
Shares of Anaheim-based Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. were up about 5% to $2.73 for a market value of $187.01 million. Analysts at Bank of America Corp. and Mizuho Securities launched coverage on the action sports retailer with a “buy” rating.
