The S&P 500 was up 0.37% to 1,788.53 in afternoon trading Thursday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.26% to 15,863.28, while the Nasdaq fell 0.01% to 3,965.16.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was off 0.51% to 2.71%.
The price of gold was up 1.49% to $1,287.30 per ounce.
Irvine-based Western Digital Corp. was up about 4% to $75.07 for a market value of $17.74 billion. The company announced Wednesday a $0.30 dividend for the December quarter that's expected to be paid Jan. 15.
Newport Beach-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. shares were up about 7% to $13.15 for a market value of $1.17 billion. Clean Energy Senior Vice President of Strategic Development Corbus Barclay bought 8,700 of the company's shares on Nov. 12 at an average purchase price of $11.54.
