The S&P 500 was up 0.99% to 1,764.49 in afternoon trading Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.64% to 15,693.93, while the Nasdaq rose 1.53% to 3,916.49.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was up 5.01% to 2.74%.

The price of gold slipped 1.80% to $1,284.90 per ounce.


Aliso Viejo-based chipmaker Microsemi Corp. was down about 5% to $23.01 on current quarter guidance released yesterday that fell below Wall Street analyst expectations. Microsemi had a recent market value of $2.14 billion.


Shares of Newport Beach-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. were up about 5% to $11.86, a day after reporting a narrowed third-quarter loss that also beat analyst expectations. Clean Energy had a recent market value of $1.06 billion.


Shares of Mission Viejo-based nursing home operator Ensign Group Inc. rose about 6% to $44, a day after the company said it planned to split itself into two publicly traded companies. Ensign had a recent market value of $965.10 million.


Local action-sports companies received a lift from October’s positive same-store sales along with comparable sales growth reported by industry retailer Zumiez Inc. of Washington.

October same-store sales as reported by nine U.S. retailers rose 3.7% last month compared to a year ago, coming in above analyst expectations.

Meantime, Zumiez earlier this week reported a 1.2% rise in same-store sales for the four weeks ended Nov. 2. The retailer’s sales rose 10.4% to $46.3 million. The company’s stock was trading up about 2% to $29.79 for a market value of $901.12 million.

Huntington Beach-based action-sports apparel maker and retailer Quiksilver Inc. rose about 7% to $8.80 for a market value of $1.48 billion.

Anaheim-based Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. shares were trading up about 3% to $2.55 for a market value of $174.85 million.

Irvine-based Tilly's Inc. was up about 3% to $15.48 for a market value of $430.05 million.


Irvine automotive marketer Autobytel Inc. was up about 18% to $9.82 for a market value of $87.43 million. The company on Thursday reported a 24% increase in third-quarter revenue to $21.6 million and net income that more than doubled to $1.3 million.
