The S&P 500 was up 0.15% to 1,764.35 in afternoon trading Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.08% to 15,603.26, while the Nasdaq was up 0.18% to 3,929.16.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond fell 0.92% to 2.60%.

The price of gold rose 0.37% to $1,318.00 per ounce.


Shares of Irvine-based homebuilder TRI Pointe Homes Inc. were trading up about 7% at midday, at $16.50 a share. The share price had surged by about 15% earlier in the morning, after TRI Pointe confirmed it would be buying the homebuilding unit of Weyerhaeuser Co. in Federal Way, Wash. The $2.7 billion is expected to close in the second quarter next year. TRI Pointe had a recent market value of $526 million.


Investors sent shares of Skilled Healthcare Group Inc. up by more than 7%, to $4.53, in anticipation of the company’s third-quarter financial results. The Foothill Ranch-based nursing home operator is expected to release its results after market close. Analysts have projected $214.5 million in quarterly revenue. The company had about $216.6 million in revenue the same time last year. Skilled Healthcare had a recent market value of about $178 million.
