The S&P 500 was up 0.18% to 1,591 in afternoon trading Friday.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.16% to 14,782.03, while the Nasdaq slipped 0.32% to 3,353.84.

The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 2.23% to 2.47%.

The price of gold rose 0.72% to $1,295.20 per ounce.

Irvine-based drug maker Allergan Inc. was down about 4% to $92.07 for a market value of $27.29 billion.

Goldman Sachs downgraded the company's stock from "buy" to "neutral."

Anaheim-based drug maker Questcor Pharmaceuticals Inc. was off about 5% to $43.64 for a market of $2.52 billion after some mixed analyst moves. Oppenheimer upgraded the company's stock from "perform" to "outperform," while analysts at Bank of America Merrill Lynch downgraded the company's stock from "buy" to "neutral."
