The Dow Jones industrial average was up 0.03% to 15,548.67, while the Nasdaq was up 0.26% to 3,597.06.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond was down 0.44% to 2.48%.
The price of gold was up 3.26% to $1,335.10 per ounce.
Anaheim-based drug maker Questcor Pharmaceuticals Inc. continued its rise so far this year, with the company’s stock up about 3% to $47.34 on Monday. Questcor, which had a recent market value of $2.74 billion, has risen 76% since the start of the year.
Aliso Viejo-based drug maker Avanir Pharmaceuticals Inc. rose about 4% to $5 for a market value of $724.82 million. The company's stock is up about 71% so far this year.
Irvine-based chipmaker Broadcom Corp. was down about 2% to $33.16 for a market value of $18.93 billion. The company is expected to report its second-quarter results after market close on Tuesday.
